Dear Readers,
Happy New Year! If all goes to plan, you’ll actually be receiving this as some pre-Christmas reading, but nonetheless, as this is technically the January 2026 issue, I would still like to wish you all a happy new year.
A new year always holds so much promise and as we look towards the new year - making plans, setting goals and dreaming about what’s to come, I hope that whatever 2026 has in-store for you is full of blessings, fond memories and quality time with those you love.
ICPA Australia, State Councils and local branches ended the year with as much pace and haste as it started with and I know for many, calendars are already marked for significant dates in 2026. I hope amongst the speed in which we sometimes race through life, you can all stop, take stock and be proud of the advocacy you are doing to champion for equitable education for geographically isolated children. Whether you’re challenging politicians to not forget the bush kids, drafting motions for state or federal conferences or fundraising for your branch, know that the difference you are making matters.
A pertinent example of this advocacy making a difference is the article by Mt Isa BOTA (pgs 32-33), interviewing their Year 6 graduating class of 2025. Within each interview, it is easy to see the excitement for what lays ahead, but also the homage to the roots that have held these students firm for so long. From marine biologists, to dancers and agricultural engineers, their career aspirations are mighty – a true testament to the fact that geographic isolation does not need to mean disadvantage.
Happy Reading from Hannah Calcino
